The automotive world is buzzing with anticipation as Hyundai readies to unveil its latest creation, promising an enticing fusion of innovation, style, and performance. However, despite holding the title of India’s top-selling mid-size SUV with the Creta, the Korean automaker encounters mounting challenges within this fiercely competitive segment.
Recent sales data paints a worrisome picture for the Creta. Its longstanding dominance now faces a formidable rival in Tata’s revamped Nexon, which has emerged as India’s premier SUV. November 2023 unveiled a stark contrast: Nexon surged ahead with 14,916 units while the Creta lagged behind at 11,814 units, signaling an 11% annual decline for the once-unassailable model. Even October hinted at this trend, with Nexon’s commanding 16,887 units against Creta’s 13,077.
However, a new avatar is planned for the Creta’s return. Hyundai intends to introduce the redesigned Creta on January 16 of next year, but testing of the vehicle has already begun in India. It is noteworthy that the Creta with the facelift has already been offered abroad. Its Indian counterpart will be unveiled later with various unique design features and changes.
Interior Layout
The interior of the 2024 Creta facelift assures a sophisticated experience with updated upholstery, a revamped dashboard, and center console. Drivers can anticipate a 360-degree camera system that promises enhanced visuals. Hyundai is also poised to introduce a newer iteration of its fully digital driver’s display, elevating the technological features within the cabin.
While the cabin layout remains unchanged, the new Creta will showcase a fresh color scheme. The car will feature a larger infotainment system offering wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality and will come equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster akin to that of the Alcazar.
Exterior Design
The Creta draws heavy inspiration from the Tucson in terms of styling, featuring a notably expansive radiator grille inspired by the Parametric Jewel design language. Rear modifications include a revised tailgate hosting redesigned tail lamps, a departure from their interconnected design. Additionally, expect a fresh set of alloy wheels to complement the side profile.
Recent sightings of the new Creta undergoing tests on Indian roads reveal significant design updates primarily concentrated at the front and rear. While the overall silhouette remains familiar, substantial revisions are evident. Anticipate a revamped LED headlight arrangement, an enlarged radiator grille, and new LED tail lights. The possibility of integrated DRLs is also on the horizon. Hyundai aims to imbue the front with a parametric jewel grille design, while the vehicle’s overall aesthetics align with Hyundai’s latest ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design language. Minimal changes are expected along the sides, apart from larger, newly designed diamond-cut alloy wheels
More Powerful Engine and ADAS Feature
The upcoming 2024 Creta facelift is set to deliver a notable upgrade, not only revamping its aesthetics but also introducing an array of advanced features and an impressive lineup of powertrains. Hyundai is expected to retain the current 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol and diesel engines, while adding a significant inclusion: a new 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine, available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). Already making its mark in the Kia Seltos, this turbo petrol engine offers increased power, efficiency, and has garnered high praise. Similarly, gearbox options like the six-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT), automatic torque converter, and Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) will be available, providing diverse choices for consumers.
The facelifted model is already available for sale in select international markets, equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). It’s highly probable that these features, such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, driver attention warning, lane-keeping assist, safe exit warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot collision warning, and others, will also be included in the India-spec model.
Increased Price
The final pricing for the 2024 Creta facelift will be revealed on its launch date, slated for January 16th. Foreseeing a price increase, the starting price is expected to begin around Rs 10.99 lakh, while the top-end variant could likely reach approximately Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. With an anticipated hike in prices, the new Creta is estimated to climb by at least Rs 80,000 – 90,000 due to additional design elements, enhanced safety features, and improvements. Competing within the Indian SUV market against rivals like the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Honda Elevate, and its relative, the Kia Seltos, the 2024 Creta facelift endeavors to sustain its competitive edge.
